Basil Hayden American Bourbon Gift

For this version of "Basil Hayden", Beam blended Kentucky Straight Rye with Canadian Rye from the Alberta distillery, and added Californian port wine to the blend. They had done this before, with a dolop of sherry in their Alberta Rye "Dark Batch." This "Basil Hayden Dark Rye" has a deep wine character to it, with a very smooth maltiness. I enjoyed this whiskey, and it is indeed different. I commented that it is a "whiskey for wine drinkers," but my Beam salesman took it up a notch and said, "Its the Whiskey for wine drinkers that are afraid of Bourbon." Its almost like a cocktail in a glass. Give it a go!
